As well as having held various positions in the UniCredit group and predecessor entities over the past 17 years, Waldstein has been an active figure in industry initiatives not only in the covered bond market but also asset backed securities, such as the Prime Collateral Securities project.

“Close collaboration with our clients within the Group is key to our success as an asset manager,” said Thomas Kabisch, MEAG’s chief executive. “With his great expertise in the management of securities and long standing international experience, Philipp Waldstein Wartenberg is an excellent fit for the management team at MEAG.”

Waldstein will take up his new position at the beginning of 2013 and is expected to leave UniCredit towards the end of this year. MEAG managing director Dieter Wolf is retiring next year.
